Dr. Yolanda Barbier Gibson became Shenandoah University’s vice president for student affairs in June 2020. Prior to that, she served as vice president for student success from June 2019-June 2020. As vice president of student affairs, she is responsible for ensuring that all students are successful both inside and outside of the classroom. Her office oversees 12 departments including: campus recreation and wellness, career and professional development, civic engagement, counseling, dean of students, diversity and inclusion, residential services, spiritual life, student leadership, student support services, student success and enrollment management, and the wellness center.
Dr. Barbier Gibson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marymount University in Communication Studies and Business Administration (VA), a Master of Arts degree in Community College Teaching and Doctor of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration from George Mason University (VA). Prior to Shenandoah University, she was a Fellow with the American Council on Education and Towson University was her host institution. From 2011-2018, she served as the associate dean of first year experience and the director of alumni relations officer at Marymount University. As the associate dean of FYE, she was responsible for coordinating and facilitating efforts across the university to provide a unified approach to interventions aimed at increasing retention and success rates of all students. In addition, she provided direct oversight and supervision for academic advising and first year seminar courses for new undergraduate freshmen and transfer students. As the director of alumni relations, she provided direct supervision for the Office of Alumni Relations, including the planning and implementation of alumni programs, and provided strategic and organizational support to the alumni advisory board.
Gibson’s other previous positions include the director of the student success center at the University of the District of Columbia’s Community College (UDC-CC), director of campus & community relations at Northern Virginia Community College (Alexandria Campus) (NOVA), academic coordinator at George Washington University’s Graduate Center, and adjunct professor at both NOVA and UDC-CC. She is a member of the National Academic Advising Association, and National Communication Association, American Association of University Women, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Gibson obtained the following honors, Alumni Club Leadership Award (2008), and the Virginia Community College System Classified Staff Leadership Award (2007).
Dr. Barbier Gibson is an active board member for the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum in Winchester, Virginia as well as United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley. She also serves on the Council of Fellows with the American Council on Education.
Yolanda is the wife of James Gibson and mother to Joelle and Gabrielle.

Dr. Suzanne O’Driscoll, is the assistant vice president for student affairs and dean of students. Since arriving at SU in 2011, she has overseen various departments in student affairs including residence life, student conduct, diversity and inclusion, campus recreation, counseling center and wellness center. Suzanne also oversees all aspects of the University’s CARE Team. Suzanne holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations from Marist College, a Master of Arts with Honors in Organizational Communications from Iona College, and a Doctorate of Professional Studies in Organizational Leadership from Shenandoah University. Suzanne also is an Adjunct Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences in Communication Studies.

Amy Sine, M.S. is the assistant dean of student success and enrollment management. Since arriving at SU in 2011, she has overseen and developed various retention initiatives to assist in continued enrollment growth and record retention rates, including the Textbook Fund, the Leadership and Educational Development (LED) Fellows, Transfer Connection, First-Generation Programming, and Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant advocacy efforts, as well a the university’s withdrawal process. Amy also oversees all aspects of the university’s New Student Orientation Programs for both Summer and Spring. Amy holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Business from Radford University, and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Shenandoah University. She is currently in the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership program from Shenandoah University.

Dahlia Ashford, M.S., is the assistant dean of inclusion, diversity, and leadership. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Mississippi State University and a Master of Science in College Student Personnel Services and Administration from the University of Central Arkansas. Dahlia has worked in higher education in several capacities, such as retention and persistence, outreach, college access initiatives, admissions, assessment, and student conduct.

Hanan Kallash completed her undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University. She then spent two years with the Peace Corps in Morocco in the sub-Saharan desert working on issues of public health relating to water sanitation, vaccination and family planning. She then went on to the University of Maryland, where she completed her master’s in preventative medicine and epidemiology in emergency health services. She spent 10 years working on a local and national level in public policy for infant health and safety including a large training grant with the National Institutes of Health NICHD division. She completed her training to become a registered nurse while working full time at the Frederick Community College night program. Kallash has over 10 years working as an intensive care unit (ICU) RN. In 2011, she was recognized with a “40 under 40” nurses in Virginia award. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University. She practiced at Selma Medical Associates, Inc., in Winchester, Virginia, for four years in the Family Practice Division prior to coming to SU as the full-time clinician and administrator for student health services.

Holli Phillips is the Assistant Dean of Access and Support. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion University and her Master of Arts in Psychology from American Public University Systems. Holli currently co-chairs the Care Team and oversees Student Support Services as well as Conduct and Community Standards. She is also the Chapter Adviser for Alpha Lambda Delta, the honor society for first-year students.

Christine is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), holding a license in both Virginia and Connecticut. She received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Radford University, and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, with an emphasis in Clinical Counseling from Roosevelt University. She has extensive training and a particular interest in working with eating disorders and body image issues. Additionally, she has a great deal of experience working with substance abuse, trauma, anxiety, and depression. Christine believes in fostering a warm and empathic environment for all of her clients and has a passion for utilizing the therapeutic space as a vessel to help heal root issues her clients may be experiencing. Christine utilizes a relational approach with her clients, while most often incorporating Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) into her work.
Additionally, Christine is passionate about Animal Assisted Therapy, having a registered therapy dog herself. Christine and her dog, Brue, are both thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of this community.

Rebecca Gibson leads the Center for Civic Engagement, where she coordinates opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to participate in community service, voter engagement, and civic dialogue. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Master of Teaching. Gibson has taught Spanish to high school, middle school, and adult learners. She also operated a small fitness center for nine years and recently served as the program director for Literacy Volunteers, Winchester Area. Gibson currently serves on the Bright Futures Advisory Board and is a recent graduate of the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber’s Community Leadership Program.

Heather Bambara is the director of Career and Professional Development. Her education history includes doctoral credits earned at Frostburg State University in Education Leadership. She holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from Bellevue University and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations from West Virginia Wesleyan College. Prior to joining Shenandoah, Heather had eighteen years of experience in higher education. Within her last role at Allegany College of Maryland, she served as Coordinator of the Work Experience Program. Remember, it’s never too early to start career planning!

Alex Johnson is the director of Student Leadership and Engagement In her role at Shenandoah, she provides direct oversight for student involvement opportunities including the Student Government Association, clubs and organizations, and signature campus events. Alex also leads the implementation of programs associated with the Shenandoah University Leadership Academy (SULA). Prior to her role at Shenandoah, she worked in various areas of higher education, including student conduct and residence life. Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Clemson University and a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University.

Brittney Burton is the director of Residence Life. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Frostburg State University. Brittney brings with her ample experience and institutional knowledge from her previous role as the Area Coordinator for Community Engagement and First Year Programming at Shenandoah University from 2019-2023. Prior to coming to SU, she served as a Residence Life Specialist at WVU Potomac State College in Keyser, West Virginia. Throughout her career in higher education, Brittney’s goal has always been to assist students in finding a place to belong at their home away from home!

Amanda Levy, M.Ed., is the senior director of auxiliary services. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a Master of Education in Human Movement, Sport and Leisure Studies from Bowling Green State University. Since arriving at SU in 2015 she has overseen renovations to the Brandt Student Center, James R. Wilkins Jr., Athletics & Events Center as well as implementing the Coursedog Event Software on campus. Amanda oversees the auxiliary components to campus including ID cards, dining and vending Services, door access, laundry and phone lines, the copy center and campus mail. She oversees the operations of the campus events and academic campus services offices.

L.A. holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Sport Management from Shenandoah University and a Master of Science in Kinesiology with a specialization in Sports Management from McDaniel College. The campus events department oversees James R. Wilkins Athletics & Events Center, Shentel Stadium, Aikens Stadium, Intramural Field, Bridgeforth Field, Rotary Field, Hazel-Pruitt Armory, and summer programs.

Jackie N. Hott, MAED, is the director of academic campus services. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education/Communication from Mary Baldwin College and earned her Masters of Arts in Education in Student Personnel Services from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Returning to Shenandoah, Jackie was the campus coordinator at our Loudoun location. She then moved into the campus manager role and moved to the Health Professions Building (HPB) in Winchester. As the director of academic campus services, she manages the HPB location and oversees the Loudoun auxiliary staff and the Child Care Center, and the University Bookstore contract.
